Yoga has become popular for its health benefits – physical and mental. By using the body to bring greater peace to the mind and the spirit, yoga can provide a holistic approach to healthcare. The flow of the movement reminds the body of the divine flow of life. Thereby, with continual reminders of the practice, the holistic body can train for enlightenment.
Kundalini yoga approaches transformation in a slightly different manner. In Kundalini yoga, the approach is more about removing obstacles and blocks in the body and mind, thereby allowing the divine within each to rise, moving closer to enlightenment. Commonly, in Kundalini yoga, repetitive movements, mudras and mantra are performed in sequences which release the blocks that hold us back. The Kundalini energy is gently guided to support profound release and transformation. Essential oils can be used to support this process.
Blend for use during practice:
Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) to open the heart center, where all transformation begins
Lemon (Citrus limon) to support the solar plexus, strengthening the commitment to break through the blocks
Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) as an adaptogen for Kundalini energy
This blend can be diffused in small amounts so as not to overpower the mind. At the beginning, lime can be more predominant to assist in the opening of the heart. In the middle, eucalyptus moves forward to assist with the rise of the kundalini. Then, at the end, lemon arises to support the spiritual strength of that energy attunement.
You may want to create a diluted anointing blend in a ratio that works for you and apply a small amount prior to practice. The key is to sensate the body and acknowledge the peacefulness of the mind. You do not want an overpowering scent of oils to take over the focus.
Single oils for use during meditation:
Sandalwood (Santalum album) – a favorite of Ganesha, remover of obstacles
Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) – soul recognition. This helps the holistic body to remember its divineness.
It is the practitioner of yoga that holds the key to the path of personal transformation. It is the essential oils that bring greater grace and beauty to the journey.
May you love profoundly, serve gracefully and laugh robustly! Sat Nam
