make my itch go away

Have you ever felt an itch and looked down to see a series of red bumps that weren’t there an hour ago? You wonder what you got into that can hurt and itch so much. During the summer we are outside more and we bare our skin as the weather heats up. This exposed skin offers us freedom, but also the possibility of contact with irritants.

An annoying rash can pop up with no explanation. That bothersome red patch can be explained as a temporary eruption on the skin, but what will make it go away? Aromatherapy can help comfort itchy skin. Even if you have no idea what caused the rash, essential oils can ease the pain, swelling and incessant itching. There are oils that can help soothe a rash of unknown origin.

Recently, a friend complained of an itchy rash on his abdomen. It was very painful and it was spreading. He was using lavender essential oil to reduce the pain so he could sleep, but it was a temporary fix that didn’t stop the spreading. I created a blend for him with the caveat that he consult a doctor if the spreading continued or if the pain got worse.

My Rash Remedy contained the following essential oils: Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) -for pain, Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) – as an antiseptic, German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) – for pain and as an anti-allergenic, Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) – for pain, swelling, skin regeneration, and as a disinfectant, and Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) – for pain, inflammation, and relaxation, in a base of Calendula infused Olive Oil – to promote healing.

A week later my friend emailed me: “I stopped using it [after four days] because it had gotten to the point that the rashes were scabbing over… It’s almost gone completely now, just a little red in the spots where the rash was, but that is decreasing every day.” A sweet-smelling victory!
