As the year comes to an end we often look ahead at what is to come. We think about how we want our future to be different, but we can also be reminded of what we enjoyed in the past. This is a good time to reflect on the past year and be happy for the good things.
Aromatherapist and Naturopath Robbi Zeck uses melissa (Melissa officinalis) essential oil to facilitate these observations. “Reaching inward, caressing the inner being, the warm radiance of Melissa directs the spirit toward mindful reflection on all that you have to be grateful for. Breathe in the fresh, light scent of Melissa and let gratitude open you to the treasures of your heart.” She recommends using the oil in a daily ritual of gratefulness, allowing yourself the time to be thankful for those things that bring you joy.
I know it can seem awkward spending a few quiet moments “thinking good thoughts” but I also know that it helps with stress reduction. Saying nice things to others or just offering a smile can ease the high blood pressure of you and the person receiving your kindness. It’s a win-win situation and a great frame of mind for starting a new year.
