Fall is here, bordering on winter sometimes, so you may be spending more hours indoors. You venture outside to admire the changing colors on the trees, but run inside for warmth. Although you want to linger in the dappled sunlight, the lure of keeping yourself from getting cold is too great to resist. So, how can you bring the feeling of fall inside with you? By scenting the environment with autumn-inspired essential oils.

There are classic spice mixtures that can translate to an aromatherapy blend very easily. One prevalent combination is Pumpkin Spice. You can mix up a strong dose of Cinnamon leaf, Ginger and Nutmeg essential oils, and then accent with Clove bud and Cardamom. A woodsy concoction can include Cedarwood, Cinnamon leaf, Sandalwood and Sweet Orange with a bit of Fir. For a lighter, more citrusy touch, combine Clove bud, Lavender, Lemon and Tangerine.

Here are two recipes that you can add to a diffuser to make a deliciously scented home:

Baking Season – beware, it may make you hungry
8 drops Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) essential oil
4 drops Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) essential oil
4 drops Ginger (Zingiber officinale) essential oil
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
Add the essential oils and vanilla extract to a small glass dropper bottle. Roll the bottle around to combine.

Spicy Clean – with the added benefit of being antimicrobial
2 drops Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) essential oil
4 drops Cinnamon leaf (Cinnamomum verum) essential oil
3 drops Ginger (Zingiber officinale) essential oil
4 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil
5 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) essential oil
Add the essential oils to a small glass dropper bottle. Roll the bottle around to combine the oils.

After diffusing these synergies for a few moments, your house will feel cozy and smell wonderful. You can bring a few golden, red and russet colored leaves in from your yard and scatter them at the base of the diffuser to add to the ambiance.
